Swing Dance Classes - Monday Nights
Start the New Year with Swing Dance lessons with the Hilo Hep Cats. Our next session will feature Lindy "Level 2", Lindy Hop "Level 3" and Beginning Blues. (If you've been wondering how to get you or your partner started with swing, this is the class to take!)
Blues Level 1, 6-7 p.m. Blues dance incorporates the essence of partner dance: connection, weight shifts, pulses, changing tempos, body isolations and lots of creativity. There’s no “basic footwork” to learn. Focus on interpreting the music through your body and that of your partner. Blues can be slow and sensual or fast and playful—and the fundamentals you learn will apply to most types of social dance. Instructors: Andie Gill and Dane Frank.
Lindy Hop Level 3, 7-8 p.m. Experienced Lindy Hoppers will review the moves taught by Andrew Sutton in his recent workshop, and also focus on patterns, styling, new moves, quality of movement and interpretation. This is the “intermediate” class--and we’ll be offering a mix of content to keep you moving! Instructors: Mark Unemori and Andie Gill.
Lindy Hop Level 2, 8-9 p.m. Learn Lindy’s 8-count basic and its iconic move, the swingout. It helps if you have some swing background (6-count swing, East Coast, West Coast, jitterbug or jive) but fast-learning beginners are also welcome. This class is a continuation of last session’s Lindy I. Instructors: Mark Unemori and Gail Vincent.
