Swing Dance Classes - Monday and Tuesday Nights

Hep Cats' Blues 2 and Lindy 1 classes start, June 14

6-week sessions start on June 14 at Island Dance Academy, 27 Haili Street in downtown Hilo, across from the Palace Theatre.  $45 for 6 weeks, or $35 if you sign up for 2 or more classes.  Sign up a dancer who has never taken a Hep Cats' class before for a 6-week session, and get your own 6-week session at half price!  No partners necessary.

Blues 2:  6-7 p.m.  If you've had a little blues dance background, come learn more material from Amy and Andie.  This is a beginner-friendly dance, so if you've had any dance experience, you might be able to jump right in without taking Blues 1--check with the instructors if you're not sure.

Lindy 1:  7-8 p.m. This is the class to take to start learning the most popular swing dance of all time!  Similar in footwork to East
Coast Swing, Jive, and some other styles, 6-count Lindy is a good basic dance--you'll be able to have fun on the dance floor in no
time!  Learn the footwork, essential connection, basic turns, and variations from Andie and Gail.

Hep Cats' Lindy 3 classes start, June 15

Lindy 3 classes are for experienced Lindyhoppers who are comfortable with the swingout and can lead and/or follow a variety of moves in 8-count Lindy Hop.  This session will be held at a new venue:  the Veterans Home on Waianuenue Avenue, next to the Hilo Hospital.  Also, we're choosing a new date and time:  classes will be Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m., followed by half an hour of open practice to lock in the material you just learned.  Expect to cover themes of rhythm, connection, and styling with instructors Mark and Andie.

Questions? Call Andie, 959-8216; hilohepcats@gmail.com. We reserve the right to cancel classes if registration is not suffficient. The first class will definitely be held though!

Private Lessons and Performances

The Hep Cats are available for private lessons, at your home or at a studio, as well as demonstrations and performances. For lessons, it’s best if you have a smooth (preferably hardwood) floor with enough room to move. Otherwise, we can rent a studio for your lessons. Contact instructor Andie Gill for rates and availability.
