Dance Party with Marcus and Baerbl 7-10pm
The Big Island's gypsy jazz band - Le Hot Club de Hilo - will perform from 7-10 p.m. Saturday April 3 at the Hilo Elks Lodge. $10 admission.
Come to dance - or just to listen - as Le Hot Club de Hilo performs vintage swing and jazz tunes, highlighted by lively instrumental virtuosity and songs in three languages. The band's style honors the influential gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and his quintette, who dazzled all of Europe in the 1930s and '40s. This will be Le Hot Club de Hilo's first appearance since we celebrated Django's 100th birthday in January with a huge concert at the Palace Theater.
Our gig comes midway in the Hilo Hep Cats' Easter-weekend dance workshop, with internationally renowned instructors and performers Marcus and Baerbl Kaufer, from Munich, Germany, who have won multiple championships in Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Balboa and other swing dance styles.
So this will be a great opportunity to practice new steps, brush up on familar moves . . . or just sit back and enjoy some great hot jazz.
